New media is a broad term that usually refers to new technologies and communication methods in the context of their effects on the established mainstream media.

New Media Age describes its remit as "covering the business of interactive media: the Internet, wireless internet and interactive TV". In essence it seems fair to say that those using the term see it as a nother term for digital media whilst those discussing the term tend to see it as more related to a hypothetical future of digital media.
